Working with industry, governments and scientists to secure sustainability of our stocks, the environment and a thriving industry

SWFPO is committed to reducing the impact that’s its members fleets have on the marine environment in order to protect the stocks they depend upon.

Various measures are already in place to ensure our fisheries remain sustainable and ensure that there is a viable future for the next generation of fishermen. SWFPO engage and get involved in the shaping of future science to support the development of meaningful management.

We continue to make investments to ensure that we are doing the right thing by our members and the environment, including investing in government and academic partnerships, vessel surveys, gear trials, biological sampling, reputation management and data sharing.

Some examples of projects SWFPO is currently or has been involved in include:

Project UK – Western Monkfish, Scallops x2
King Scallop English stock assessment
Fishing for Litter
Project 50%
SW ecological risk screening

“Working with SWFPO has been crucial to the progress of the Project UK FIPs and the continued success of the FIPs requires significant industry input and engagement. Not only has SWFPO provided a positive contribution to the two scallop and SW monkfish Steering Group discussions, their active participation in the delivery of actions identified in the FIP action plans demonstrates leadership in the commitment to improving the sustainability of UK fisheries.”
